Recently, there has been a resurgence of interest in shampoo bars. We first started formulating them a few years ago, and use them ourselves on a daily basis.
Shampoo bars use less packaging than liquid shampoo. They are usually sold “naked” or wrapped in biodegradable or recyclable materials.
With little water content compared to liquid shampoo, bars are more compact. They weigh less, and are ideal for lightweight travel.
You’ll also get away with a shampoo bar in your airline travel hand baggage.
As shampoo bars tend to be highly concentrated, they also last a long time.
Coming onto shampoo in general, a lot of people suffer with irritated, itchy, flaky scalps.
It’s worth taking a look at your ingredients label.
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) is part of many shampoos. It gives cleaning and foaming properties. Unfortunately it also dries the skin. This is an issue for people suffering with conditions like eczema, dermatitis or psoriasis. And if you don’t rinse off thoroughly, SLS can be irritating when in prolonged contact with the scalp.
Methylisothiazolinone (MI) is a preservative found in many shampoos. It is also a common allergen, capable of provoking a fairly severe reaction, usually from localised dermatitis.
It’s worth checking all your skincare and cosmetic products for these ingredients. Kallisti shampoo bars do not contain SLS or MI. We use alternatives that do not provoke a reaction.
So that’s the good news!
What’s the bad news?
Well, we haven’t decided whether to sell our shampoo bars yet, and also they aren’t pretty :-D
We are conducting a user trial though. If the results are positive, we'll officially launch them.
